What is the Origin of the name Relay de la Source?
The story of Relay de la Source begins in February 2014: we were looking for property in the countryside suitable for horses. By chance we came across La Solissonniere, we fell head over heels in love with it (in French- a coup de Coeur).
6 months later we resumed the gîte lettings. We were already considering a renovation program for the following season. On the other hand, the name change couldn’t wait. The old name of “Clef des Chouans” didn’t appeal to us as it is based on a historical error, being an amalgam of the Breton (the famous Chouans) and the Vendéens.
Brainstorming session
We started from scratch ! For the new name, we needed to find key words evocative of the site for our future guests. We started thinking in terms of strengths :
- the stone buildings,
- the spring,
- the Lay River,
- the tranquillity,
- the nature,
- the 3 horses.
A name soon revealed itself. The Source (and its verb “ressourcer”) evokes at the same time rest, peacefulness and nature. As for the Deux Lay, they occur in the English word Relay.
Why this spelling ?
- The word relais in French is well used on the web.
- Spelling of river names is maintained
- The name is also understandable for our English friends, and we love to welcome them !
- Finally Relay through history has been indicative of a resting place for travellers, and we love history in all forms.

Sabrina is consultant / trainer in Communications & Web design
She creates websites, logos and works with her clients in the long term to help them achieve their goals. In another life, she worked in tourism as a guide speaker and guide interpreter English and German.
On the personal side, she is passionate about history, like to practice her English, cultural encounters, photography and the garden. Recently, she has been studying, in depth, the philosophy of permaculture to make Relay de la Source a new Garden of Eden.
Alain, passionate about sports and farm animals
Alain is a happy retiree. While still active, his dream was to have a farm with animals in the countryside. He has achieved that at Relay de la Source, where our four legged friends share the life of holidaymakers.
Alain is a big fan of sports, which he practiced with diligence: windsurfing, rollerblading, spear fishing, skiing. Today he practices mountain biking on the surrounding circuits, and karate (which he has studied for 40 years) … in his personal dojo.
His other centre of interest: the garden, the woods and the forests. Cutting a tree breaks his heart, so much he enjoys seeing them grow and spread their branches.
